Reason no. 60...

Love love love this book by Stef Liston: Just Like Us. I read it for the first time this year and it definitely challenged my perspective of what prayer is. He takes different people in the bible and draws out what we can take from their lives. There's a chapter all about Gideon. He writes:

'To have high expectations of God is to have a high opinion of God, and to have low expectations of God is to have a low opinion of God. God doesn't need people to make excuses for what He's not doing. He's looking for people who won't listen to excuses. He's looking for a church that will dare to ask Him questions and enquire why His glory isn't being made known as it has in the times gone by...'

Gideon asked God questions. He's totally honest with how he's feeling. He looks at his current situation and compares it to what God's done in the past. He's the same God, with the same power, so we can have confidence when coming before God. That should mean that our expectations rise. With increased expectation all the more God loves to totally exceed them, just read Ephesians 3:20:

'Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine...'
