The fact that our brains are able to understand allophones (slight variations of sounds) is incredible. What we're able to identify as 2 separate sounds, other languages would not recognize the difference at all. How our brains can fine-tune into the slight details of these noises and it can completely change the meaning of a word. At the same time how our brain is able to fine-tune into speech over background noise is amazing! Reason no. 504 :)
